Powder Coatings Markets

In addition to offering highly decorative features, just about all of the functions and effects commonly sought from a painted finish are available in powder coating - including, but not limited to, the properties of anti-weathering, anti-corrosion, anti-abrasion, flexibility, formability and oil, chemical, solvent and stain resistance. Powders are available in standard stock products, in a variety of gloss levels, colours and surface finishes - or may alternatively be custom designed to exact finish, colour or performance requirements.

Powder coating is an extremely versatile technology, offering a one-coat finish at thicknesses from as low as 25 microns to as high as 1000 microns. It follows that the range of applications of powder coatings had become extremely diverse, and the following list, whilst serving to provide examples, represents only a fraction of the total number of end-uses to which powder coatings are applied today.

In future technology terms, new and modified powder chemistries are evolving, which together with continuing advances in application engineering, will broaden the range of powder applications even further. New developments include faster and lower temperature curing powders, highly flexible powders for post forming and coil coating applications, advanced UV-resistant coatings, and finishes with exceptional flow and levelling. Powder coatings are also becoming available for new substrates such as wood and medium-density fibreboard (MDF).
