The Secretary of State's Guidance Note for The Manufacture of Coatings Materials , PG6/44(04) makes reference to the British Coatings Federation's publication, The VOC Workbook, as a means of demonstrating compliance with the VOC total emission limits and as a basis for preparation of solvent management plans.
The VOC Workbook has been developed by the British Coatings Federation (the sole UK trade association for manufacturers of decorative coatings, printing inks and industrial coatings) with the appreciation that the very low level of VOC emissions from coatings manufacturing installations required a different methodology to that applicable to industrial and professional users of coatings and inks.
The VOC Workbook is intended for use by operators of installations with a PG6/44 permit and for UK regulating authorities, and should be read in conjunction with PG6/44. It includes background information on the development of the methodology and comprehensive instructions on its application and use. The methodology has been tested by British Coatings Federation member companies and a number of worked examples are included in the document.
The VOC Workbook is available for free download from this webpage, along with a spreadsheet that provides a framework for calculation of VOC contents and emissions from various sources within coatings materials manufacturing installations. Please note these are provided as zip files (to reduce document size).
Paper copies of The VOC Workbook are available, at a price of £30 (including postage and packaging), from:
Tracy Jagger, British Coatings Federation, Riverbridge House, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 9AD.
A cheque, payable to British Coatings Federation, should accompany all orders.
From time to time it may be necessary to update and amend The VOC Workbook. To enable us to alert operators to updates, please complete and return the attached registration form. (DEFRA is likely to alert local authority regulators to any relevant changes).
Any queries should be directed to Wayne Smith, British Coatings Federation, email wayne.smith@bcf.co.uk
