Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Workshop – 29th September, Nottingham Gateway Hotel
December 2010 sees the introduction of a revision to the REACH requirements for safety data sheets (Annex II to REACH). Whilst there are some transition periods for existing SDSs; SDSs for substances, SDSs for new mixtures and those where the SDS has had to be re-issued due to a change will need to meet the new standard as of 1 December 2010! The new requirements are significantly different from the current CHIP requirements and will need a substantial change to SDS-producing IT systems. Transport Workshop – Carriage of Dangerous Goods – 20th October, Nottingham Gateway Hotel
2011 will see major changes to transport of Limited Quantities (LQ) by road, sea and air - a completely new design of diamond mark for cartons and shrink trays. Revised LQ marking of vehicles and shipping containers will also apply, along with changes to ADR documentation. The previously announced new Packing Instructions for air transport and vibration tests for IBCs will come into force. Please click here for more details.
Nanotechnology – 21st October, Nottingham Gateway Hotel
Run in conjunction with PRA and the Nano KTN, this seminar will present the current state of play with regard to the use of nanomaterials in coatings, paints and inks. The presentations will introduce the topic, giving the benefits of using nanomaterials in coatings, including funding opportunities for research. Case studies on the use of nano in coatings will be given by suppliers and BCF members. One session will cover the processing and QC of nanomaterials. The current state of knowledge with regards the health, safety and environmental concerns will be given. Future developments by universities, including how to link with these will be presented. Finance Seminar – 28th October, Eastwood Hall, Nottingham
Financial service providers will describe now they can help improve the management, funding and structure of companies in the coatings industry. To date we have booked presentations on tax legislation, commercial finance, foreign exchange, credit insurance and debt management.
Update Seminar – 10th November, Nottingham Gateway Hotel
This annual event will be the usual pot-pourri of health safety and environmental issues. It will include presentations on environmental permitting and financial penalties, security, COMAH, air pollution, waste and health and safety.
BCF Awards Dinner – 10th November 2010 at Nottingham Gateway Hotel
This dinner will celebrate the launch and presentation of a new BCF Sustainability Innovation Award (see www.coatings.org.ukfor more detail), the presentation of two Coatings Care Awards (Overall Best Performer and Most Improved) together with a reintroduced Student of the Year Award to recognize the person with the best results from the BCF’s training modules.
Change Management Masterclass – September/October, venue tbc
This full day workshop will share attendees’ experiences and improve the effective management of change within the organisation. It will give delegates an understanding of the impact of culture and how to work with it, how to build an effective team, how to manage, communicate and mobilise change within a company and cover scenario planning. The day is specifically focused on the coatings industry and the content is changed to reflect the needs of the attendees following their completion of a questionnaire prior to the day. The day will be run by Pamela Venables of Capgemini.
Waste/Energy – Autumn/Winter, venue tbc
The BCF is planning to run a seminar on all aspects of waste minimisation for BCF members. This seminar will cover how to reduce hazardous waste and how to effectively dispose or reuse it, how companies can work on increasing their production yields with improved working practices, how to reduce and control energy expenditure and other production savings such as how to raise awareness in buying, specifying and using equipment.
