WALLPAPER STILL HOLDS FAVOUR WITH UK PUBLIC

The UK wall coverings sector had a successful 2010 according to new figures from the British Coatings Federation.

The total UK market grew by over 6% in rollage and by 9% in value terms, with sales of coloured wallpaper particularly strong, highlighting that the UK consumer’s affection for pattern and design in home interiors is very much alive.

On the export front, 2010 was an even better year for the UK industry with sales volumes growing by 25% and the value of sales up 40%.

Other good news came from the employee numbers – up seven percent in 2010 compared with 2009 figures.

Tony Mash, Chief Executive of the BCF, said: “These figures offer a good insight to the healthy relationship the UK public continues to have with wall coverings. They demonstrate that despite a difficult year the sector has not only survived, but also grown”.
